For those of you contemplating undergoing a frenotomy for your baby's tongue or lip ties, I thought I'd share our story:
My son was diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie. We were referred by our pediatrician to Dr. Agarwal for the procedure. Meeting Dr. A before the procedure gave us great confidence in him. He is well respected amongst pediatricians and lactation consultants alike. I was hesitant to put my baby through the pain of the procedure/recovery; however, I knew that the benefits from the latch improvement would far outweigh the little pain he would experience. Immediately post-procedure he feed well at the breast. After the anesthetic wore off, he did well with Tylenol and arnica. His pain was present for the first 24 hours. Thereafter, the pain was minimal and only with stretching. We did the stretches religiously to avoid having to have a revision. He cried less and less with the stretches over the first week. Eventually he smiled and played through the stretches. The latch significantly improved. My pain resolved. His transfer improved to 4 oz over 20 minutes. Having this procedure was the best possible decision to ensure that we would be able to breastfeed for the years to come. I would recommend Dr. A and Agave Pediatrics to anyone considering the procedure!
