This is a great trails for hiking, walking, mountain biking, or riding a horse. We were there last week and it was around 96°F so it was hot. Take lots of water, sunscreen and wear a hat!!
Multiple trails varying in distance from .5 mile to 11 miles. The trail system is well marked and there are free trail maps at the Gateway Trailhead. The Gateway Trailhead also has water, and bathrooms and majority of hikes are in the 4 mile range.
A nice gentleman there recommend The Gateway Loop trail. We also walked the Bajada Nature Trail.
The McDowell Sonoran Preserve was created in 1990 when private citizens and the city of Scottsdale realized that they had to protect this beautiful nature from development. The preserve is run by and cared for by private volunteers.
Imo, it was a beautiful, peaceful desert hike. We also saw humongous cactii I have ever seen and bunnies!
