"Where do I sign???"
Within hours of departing to so cal in the AM my sister and I stop by to check if this place was open as we were driving around town aimlessly looking to get our *fat mode* on. Landing at 1am it just so happened to be Happy Hour :D
This place bring back a lot of good o' memories as we use to come here when it was Venetian, an old Italian joint way before Sauteed Clams was established. It was our alternative to steak and eggs graveyard special for cheap eats back in HS. I still remember the inconsistent creamy fettuccine alfredo they served with house salad, a soda of your choice, and unlimited bread and butter for $3.99. It was what I think was our best kept secret as everyone else was still into that S&E phase.
Fast forward 10 years later, I'm not being stingy this time. Oh no, I'm telling everyone and their mama about this place! This has to be one of the best HH place I've been to in a long, long time. Way better than Brio's HH, but sadly that's a whole another review that's not even worth mentioning.
The difference between Herb and Rye is that they stay true to their menu and offer most items at discount, 50% off to be exact, than creating a bogus menu. Unless you dig that sort of thing then that's cool, but if you're like me then you'd want a real entree as meal. Let me get a *dab*. Anyone?
We went with our bartender's few suggestions, Flat Iron steak with red pepper mash potatoes and gnocchi bolognese. He let it be known that the chef recommend that we do not go above medium temp on the steak. They didn't know it, but right then and there we "click."
Our meal was came out perfect. Wasn't too much food, but just right. Sooo darn good that i came back the next night after a long day trip to Cali with my sister to try something else that our bartender suggested since i really enjoyed the two dishes we shared the night before. Unfortunately they were closed at 2am since they had a mixology tasting party earlier, but luckily I met, and excuse my spelling, Nickolay, the owner. We chatted for a bit in the parking lot. Found out we both once worked for the same guy before.
For 2 entree just barely under $25 this place is defiantly an option for a late night snack. Bravo Herb and Rye, way to carry on Venetian's saga.
