| - Checked this place out today, while it was 110+ degrees out, and they had no A/C running! If they did, you definitely could not feel it because it was just as warm inside as it was outside.
On to the food - we ordered the #1 carne asada, #2 wood fired chicken, and #4 pork butt arepas. When you get your food, they provide 2 sauces - a creamy, cilantro-ish (similar to the creamy cilantro dressing from El Pollo Loco) and a salsa verde that has a little bit of a spicy kick to it. Both sauces had great flavor, and thank goodness they did because you'll need it. I've never had arepas before so I'm not sure if they're meant to be bland so it'll pick up flavors from the meat, but they were just that. Unfortunately, the meats didn't really help either because they were pretty flavorless, too. The carne asada arepa was so dry that I had to douse it in the green sauces just to get through it and still didn't finish it. The pork butt had some type of sweet tomato based sauce on it, sort of tasted like al pastor. It was just ok, definitely not as dry as the asada. I didn't try the chicken arepa but my BF said it was just ok.
We also ordered the 3 chicken thighs special that's posted on the window by the register and an order of yucca fries. I love yucca fries and these were just right. Crunchy on the outside, smooth inside. The chicken thighs special came with 3 pieces of grilled boneless, skinless thighs, black beans, and rice. I would come back here just for the beans and rice! Whatever flavor was lacking in the arepas was totally made up for in the rice and beans. Definitely worth a try.
Overall, I'm not completely in love with the place but they have a lot of other items on the menu that seemed interesting. Might give it another shot some day.
