I've done this hike a couple of times both in the summer time and spring time. Although, most of the hike is, yes, a 'bore' with your best four legged pal and/or hiking buddies -- that small feat could be overcome. A pleasant a couple of "dry" miles that leads to the wonderful sight of the Colorado River then only a short hike to your final destination - tada! - hot springs. Definitely, a nice hike not to far from a city not known for its hiking destination.
***FYI - if you plan on a 'later' hike.. which is anything past 3pm and you may have a possibility of hiking back with the sun-setting and possibly having the sun set on you. Be prepared with a flashlight and ample hydration. We made that mistake once and lo&behold we miss the trail that lead back to the vehicle parking lot and ended up almost to the bridge area.. which was a wayyysss from the parking lot. Needless to say, I felt like we scaled some hills to get to the vehicle. BE PREPARED.
