| - It's suddenly and quite very official. I'm a BIG FAN of Harvest!!! In all my many years living in Madison, I have never gotten there and suddenly I've been twice in the last 3 weeks for 2 different events (a birthday celebration & restaurant week) and boy howdy am I a "cuisinely" blessed individual.
Side note: sometimes I make up fun words like "cuisinely". You're welcome.
The entire staff is fabulous! No kidding, no matter who you deal with - Jen or Nancie or Alyssa or.... Fabulous! And the ambiance is lovely, not overly loud or harshly lit. Also fabulous!
For the birthday celebration, I enjoyed the grilled steak special of the day (a hangar steak) with pan roasted Yukon potatoes, chimichurri, and pickled shallots. I ordered it as the chef recommended (medium rare) and it was, to date, one of the most flavorful, tender steaks of my life. It was easily one of my top 3 steaks of all time. The chimichurri was perfect (it made me miss Restaurant Magnus - chimichurri heaven). And who knew pickled shallots were a thing let alone a really, really good thing. I have been schooled!
And last night, for Restaurant Week, I experienced yet another incredible meal. I ordered the crispy confit chicken thigh with coleslaw to start, the pan roasted trout for my entrée, and the mojito sorbet to finish. The chicken thigh was perfectly crispy & salty & rich with a nice balance provided by the vinegar-kissed creaminess of the slaw. The Lake Superior trout was totally insane. I literally couldn't eat it slowly enough, wishing the entire time that it would never end. Yes, it was that good.
It wasn't at all fishy, the skin was crispy, and the fish itself was tender and flavorful. It basked gloriously in this divine, sweet corn emulsion with a green bean and zucchini succotash - light and creamy and not overly sweet. I would have licked the plate if I hadn't been worried about making a scene. I. Want. More!
And then the mojito sorbet..... You guys! It was, quite frankly, the best sorbet I have ever had. Seriously. It was so amazing that it was totally not okay and I'm pretty sure I'm now completely ruined where all other sorbets are concerned. I'm not even sure how to describe all the flavors and elements that it celebrates. You just have to order it and try it and then you'll know. And for the record, I don't even like mojitos and I loved this dessert. I literally have no complaints. My only sadness is that I was so into my meal that I totally forgot to take photos.
So there it is, my dear Yelp friends. Hurry. Go now. Enjoy.
