  • I have to counter these negative reviews because my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. I'm really glad I didn't let the bad reviews of this resort deter me from booking a mini staycation. It doesn't specify anywhere on their website, but before arriving, I called to make sure they were pet friendly so we wouldn't have to leave our pup behind and they absolutely are and do not have a pet fee! A win in my book. Upon pulling up to the luxurious valet/lobby entrance to drop off our things, the staff was very welcoming and respectful of our decision to self park and carry our things in ourselves. The parking lot is just steps away and we did not have much stuff since we were only staying one night. They welcomed Lucy (our dog) with open arms and even asked if she could be their lobby dog; they were all so friendly with her! Check in was a breeze and I asked a lot of questions so I was clear on what they charge extra for (because of other reviews on here). As an FYI, I asked about visitors because my parents were planning on stopping by to see my baby at some point and there is a $10 visitors fee that can be waived by buying a drink at the bar. I asked for late check-out for the next day and was happy to find out it was complimentary. Another win. The room: we stayed in their signature King and it was spacious and clean with a modern but retro/Arizona desert theme. I can see where people were overcharged because consuming almost anything was extra. Just a water bottle was $4. The fridge was stocked full with almost any drink you could ask for. There was barely any room for me to store my baby's milk, lol. If you're not big spenders like us, be wary of everything in the room. It's true they don't do the typical mini shampoos/conditioner/body wash for you to keep; they provide full size bottles that cost $28/ea if you take them. In my opinion, I wish we brought our own because they were all "sea grass" and I wasn't a fan of smelling like grass lol. Also, if you wouldn't like to watch your roommate shower (lol), the shower is fully open and glass walled in the center of the room. There is a curtain you can pull if you trust your mate not to take a peek! It was raining that evening, so instead of the pool, we decided to order some appetizers on the patio next to the camelback garden. It was so relaxing just to lounge with my husband, baby, and dog with the beautiful view of camelback mountain. Our waitress was lovely and attentive even though we were the only ones outside. We recommend the fries and the avocado hummus from the lounge menu. My husband woke up early and brought me a yummy breakfast smoothie from the restaurant before his tee time at the short course. My baby and I stayed in and we were awoken by housekeeping knocking at 8 AM! I was taken aback and had to yell that we were inside, almost waking up the baby. Be sure to USE THE DOOR HANGER to specify if you're in-room or not. The night before, we noticed after only being gone for about 30 mins, someone already had come in to tidy the room. They probably come in often because they don't have high occupancy. Our late morning in the resort, we were able enjoy their huge 2-tier pool with infinity water fall all to ourselves! The service was superb since we were the only ones out there. I felt like we were just swimming at home but with incredible service and a gorgeous mountain view. The pool was probably my favorite part of our stay. I'm still reeling over how friendly the staff were. I'm not sure if it's because there weren't many others there but every employee we encountered stopped to compliment my family or talk to our baby or gave our dog some love. I could have used one more night to stay but I would definitely come back especially when they're more established. I think it's safe to say that I loved Mountain Shadows for the most part and would recommend everyone to give it a try. **I highly recommend AZ residents take advantage of their special: NO PARKING OR RESORT FEE! I believe I read that they will have it till September.
