  • This hotel was OK, nothing to write home about. I was there 11/3-11/4 of 2011, in from out of town for a meeting. Here's the good & the bad: The good: The San Souci restaurant was top-notch, first class, awesome gourmet food and very classy. I didn't have to pay for my meal, so I don't know the pricing, but it was a very positive experience. Also, in the room, I was pleasantly surprised that it was quite spacious. Bed was comfortable, room (interior facing) was decently quiet. Contrary to any of the reviews, I saw no signs of bedbugs. Some elegant "historical" spaces in the building, although I've seen much nicer elsewhere. The bad: 1) DO NOT ARRIVE HERE BEFORE 4PM, EVER! Front desk staff was completely befuddled and confused about what to do with people who were arriving about 2 PM. They kept repeatedly telling everyone to "keep checking back in about 1/2 hour". I was told at about 2 PM that "your room has been cleaned, and is just awaiting inspection, so come back in about a half hour and see if it's ready". I checked back with another girl at 2:30, same story, but now she admits that she's a little less optimistic, and that since check-in time is supposed to be 4 PM, she can't really guarantee that she can get road-weary me into a room by then, even though I really need to just have a place to crash out and then do some important work. Long story short, the same thing happens at 3PM, then 3:30 --- WHY WON'T THEY JUST BE HONEST UP-FRONT AND TELL PEOPLE "YOU CANNOT CHECK IN UNTIL 4PM"??? 2 hours killed just waiting in their dumpy lobby and checking back. 2) Cleanliness was OK. Bar area near lobby had something gross looking (like a milkshake) spilled all over one of the booths while I was waiting on #1 above. My room had a pin embedded in the carpet near the bed - I pulled it out so no one would step on it. Found a penny on the carpet where the vaccum cleaner should have picked it up. 3) Carpet in room and in hallways smelled old & somewhat musty. 4) Place is in need of numerous cosmetic upgrades and modernization, such as the industrial looking toilets (no they are not antique). 5) Charge for internet in the room (no wireless, only ethernet). 6) Neighborhood is pretty dumpy and not all that safe. 7) Parking is $24 a day self-park, not all that great.
