| - I wasn't sure if I was going to write this review, but after sitting and thinking on it for two months I understand that yes, maybe I've had a unlucky bad experience. On the other hand, would I recommend this salon? The answer is a firm no.
My first appointment went great, Eryn did an awesome job and I was very impressed. My second appointment, however, was nothing but trouble.
I booked to have my roots bleached and dyed and a few hours before my appointment I got a call saying Eryn wasn't available. Short notice but whatever, shit happens.
They offered me a time slot with another stylist but I decided that I would wait another week. When I asked if she would be available next week, nobody knew. I waited, and a week later I caved and booked an appointment with someone else since according to their online booking system, Eryn was unavailable that entire week. I settled on booking it with a new girl since she was a junior stylist and I figured I'd save a few bucks considering that this is just roots and nothing elaborate.
I walk in and it turns out Eryn was there and was available that week, but I didn't want to be rude and cancel/rebook, especially since I already made the trip over here from the east end.
The new girl was nice, and we got along well, I just want to preface with that. I don't feel like this was entirely her fault.
I told her that my hair lightened really fast, and that last time Eryn used 20vol bleach. Not sure why I mentioned it because in theory, salons usually keep track of these sort of things for future appointments. Anyways, Eryn overhead, came over, said that it wasn't right, and instructed the girl to do 20 at the back and 30 at the front. At this point I really should have said something but I kept quiet since I'm obviously not a professional.
When she girl was washing out the colour she kept constantly checking my roots, especially at the front, and I felt suspicious but didn't think much of it.
It looked good at first. I have serious social anxiety and I just wanted to be in and out and I made the mistake of not really taking a good look at how my roots looked up close. When I went home and did a closer inspection, my roots were at least a shade lighter than the rest of my hair. It looked bad. There was also a front patch of hair that barely took any dye at all. The back of my hair which was done at the correct volume looked fine, but basically all the visible roots looked messed up. I even asked my mom to give me her opinion and she straight up said it looked like I'm balding....
I googled to see wtf happened and turns out I had something called "hot roots" which is a rookie mistake made by nonprofessionals who attempt to bleach their roots at home. This should not have happened considering the price I paid (which was also more than they advertised for a junior stylist, might I add). I understand that salons typically offer to fix these things for free and I considered going back. The fixes were to either bleach the rest of my hair light enough to match the roots (which would damage my hair and I didn't want that), or give me a shadow root which would make lightening my roots in the future more difficult and damaging. I decided to just live with it.
To add insult to injury I also discovered that there was a huge bleach stain at the back of my shirt around the collar.
I won't be going back. I understand this is probably a random unlucky scenario but I feel like the stylist definitely was aware of the problem(s) but didn't say anything to me which is very unprofessional. I would have literally been better off doing this myself at home, because if I made the same mistake at least I wouldn't have paid $160 for it.
