| - If there's any spot in Toronto I'd come close to calling "my local", this would be it. Although I don't live in the area, I happily hop on the ol' subway early on Friday nights and head down to Wellesley Station. This Fox is in a festively lit, old Victorian home, and I often grab a table in the (soon to be full) dining area, of what one can imagine was once the receiving room of a grand home. The decor definitely screams "bar" - but classy, as if someone in 1890 was a fan of bar culture and collected bar paraphernalia.
This place is great for bar goers of all kinds - drinkers, eaters, minglers, dancers and karaokers (I am all 5 :)
Friday nights are a must for lovers of drink and karaoke. Friday's special is $3.50 bar rails and well drinks, and one can easily sit with friends and have a few pops for under $20. The karaoke starts at 10, and if you can get through the first half an hour of the "DJ" (I think he looks like James Franco - who's with me?) blasting music in some attempt to get the crowd pumped, the karaoke is a lot of fun and you can still converse fairly easily among your friends. If karaoke isn't your thing, then move on over into the bar area where the noise is greatly reduced, but you can still have a giggle over the drunken and the tone deaf, when the situation arises. It's also a great spot for those who want to get their dance on, but are not committed to the club district, as there's a little dancefloor upstairs with it's own bar and disco ball :) Top 40 sort of music, good for a few songs, and then a move back down back to the bar on the main level when you're all danced out.
I'm also a big fan of the food at this place - I've never ordered anything that let me down. I'm particularily a fan of the wings - there is a ton of flavours to choose from, definitely the biggest selection I've seen outside of a wings-devoted chain. The pad thai and curries are also fabulous, as are their sandwich and wraps selection. The service can be slow and the waitresses inattentive, but for the cheap food and drink and the charming atmosphere, it's definitely a favourite spot of mine.
