  • This place is literally one of my FAVORITE spots in the Madison area. I mean, where else can you get a TRUNK-FUL of veggies for less than $30?! Absolutely wonderful. They're open all through the growing season, and their website (thetreefarm.net) is updated daily with the stuff you can pick--along with descriptions of how the crops are doing. I go for the onions, peppers (there are SO many varieties!), kale, and popcorn, mostly. Yes, popcorn. You can pick the cobs right off the stalk, take them home to dry, and then stick the whole thing in a paper bag and microwave. Be sure to buy a bunch to last you through the whole winter. You can even pick flowers and make killer bouquets for your friends (*hint: a lot of the vendors at the Farmer's Market on the Square go here to pick and sell!). IF YOU LIKE CANNING, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. I've taken friends and boyfriends here and they all love it. It's so much fun to pick your own veggies (just be sure to keep a watchful eye on the guys--for some reason, their competitive nature makes them not want to stop, and suddenly you have more bell peppers than you know what to do with). There is a bathroom on-site (though I've never used it), and you have to bring your own bags. I like reusable produce bags, as regular plastic bags aren't always rugged enough. They ONLY take cash or local check--no plastic. DON'T FORGET! :) The couple who run the place are just lovely. Parking is ample, but it's just all along the dirt road that stretches next to the fields. A note on that dirt road: you will drive up a very steep, gullied road to get to the fields. Make sure your car can handle it. Throw it in low gear and prepare to have an amazing time--this place is pure gold! Be sure to get out there and get the last of everything before they close--last day is Nov. 6th, 2016! :)
