| - As someone who goes to Vegas way too many times a year, walking around the same casinos can get a little monotonous (need to take a break from gambling, somehow and somewhere) That's why if there's anything new and food-related that pops up, I'm immediately curious and will want to try -- even if my stomach is full. Hey, I'll make room.
So, walking around Planet Hollywood shops, we stumbled upon Lobster ME (as in abbreviation for Maine), adjacent to a Fat Tuesday. If I recall correctly, this space was previously a Godiva. Front and center, they immediately claimed to have the world's best lobster roll. Oh really. I needed to find out for myself.
They have some other unique items, like lobster and eggs, lobster and waffles, lobster grilled cheese, lobster mac 'n cheese, and the lobsicle (gasp, another lobster-on-a-stick version, similar from the truck I just tried back home in OC). Plus, they have... wait for it... lobster ice cream. But I'll talk about that a bit later.
So with a belly stuffed with Earl of Sandwiches, I managed to make enough room to try their lobster roll for $16 (plus I split with several people). That's for the regular size. If you want a bigger size, it's $22. The lobster roll is pretty decent. I've had my fair share from the East coast, fancy versions from LA restaurants, and plus from an LA-based food truck. So all kinds of lobster rolls.
This lobster roll had a nice and toasty, buttered roll, with a slight crisp. Inside, it was stuffed with plenty of lobster meat from the tail. On the outside, they put the claw meat. This lobster roll isn't mayo-based, but with butter -- just enough so that it's not overpowering the meat. Flavor-wise, I thought it was fine. No need to over-salt, fancy seasonings or sauces.
We tried a small sample of the lobster ice cream. It was pretty disgusting. It was like tasting a mouthful of butter ice cream with little pieces of frozen lobster chunks inside. Intriguing, but just not a good combo -- but it gets people talking about it though.
So 3 stars strictly just for the lobster roll. Everything else on the menu? Eh, not so sure if it's worth trying. But hey, I'm a purist when it comes to lobster. Simplicity is everything. Lobster should be consumed steamed with a subtle touch of butter. You want to taste the meat. All these other dishes incorporated with lobster seem to be just a gimmick.
