  • I took my daughters car into Midas on Windmill Parkway in Henderson , Nv. on 9 Aug 2016 for their coupon special 19.99 Conventional Oil Change Plus. The coupon said included tire rotation & pressure check, brake check, Battery Test, Windshield fluid top off, multi-point courtesy check. The manager / desk attendant told me if I did not upgrade to the Synthetic oil package it would void my engine warranty from the Manufacturer. The owners manual recommends SAE 5-30 API SH, SJ, SL or SM does not mention any requirement for full synthetic oil. As it turns out the store uses a synthetic blend as part of their "conventional " oil change or at least that is what it said on the paperwork. I don't mind an up sale that is why they have discount coupons to bring you in but to lie about it telling customers it would void their warranty is dishonest. It would be better to sell the virtues of synthetic like longer mileage between changes, better startup lubrication etc.. They were not going to perform any of the included services on the coupon unless you specifically asked for them by name and they don't tell you that up front, IE no tire rotation even though printed on coupon unless you ask, but they had no problem pulling my cabin air filter that was torn when shown me without asking! The bathroom was not cleaned from day before, I was there before store opened first customer. Ultimately tires were not rotated because tread wear was reported to vary too much between front & back and I agree there was some difference so make sure you rotate on time or you may not be able to in future. I verified the oil filter was changed and the oil in the engine was clean when I left. Would I go there again, it depends if I can find a better deal elsewhere. In 2013 a survey performed at many varied oil change shops found 20 % did not meet the minimum API requirements for the cars they were oiling. At dealer you get the right stuff but pay more, what is an engine worth? Verify the shop is using the recommended SAE viscosity for your vehicle and API rating meets minimum standard for your vehicle. If you don't want them to check your cabin air filter tell them up front! PS your expected to make an appointment at this shop .
