  • It was a hot Friday morning. I'm used to the San Diego mediterranean climate. Strangely, I craved pho. Was I homesick? Ricockulous. T and I yelped it. We filtered Kai Hoan out of the yelp masses, and off we went. I stayed with my staple - a large bowl of #1, the combination special of pho. I enjoyed it - except I couldn't place it why the broth flavor seemed to start strong and finish less so. That's not to say, I didn't enjoy it, but it made me wonder. T ordered banh cuon, which is like a steamed stuffed crepe. I've never tried it. I do know that Chinese versions usually serve a variation of this as part of dim sum. From my experience, it's usually served at breakfast. Yummay! But T looked at it twice - it was served on a bed of lettuce. Wet lettuce. It seemed strange to have it served on wet lettuce. Maybe it was for looks, but she claims the moisture further moistened the banh cuon than needed. When I'm home in San Diego, I'll try banh cuon.
