| - I am updating this review a couple of days later being that I received a response from the veterinarians at the hospital: I would strongly hope that they learn from this experience.
Firstly, I understand, being in the medical profession, when we aren't sure what we are seeing because we do not have experience in that field. Yet, when I see something that I am not familiar with, I don't wait. I call the specialist's office myself and get the patient in right away and I most certainly do not tell the client/patient that the situation is not urgent. That completely changes the focus of that individual in getting to the specialist in a quicker fashion. There was failure to provide proper informed consent about the dangers of this condition and what could potentially happen if this condition is not treated in a timely fashion. The reason there was failure is that the notes, which I reviewed recently, claimed a diagnosis of herpes simplex keratitis, but I was never told that. I was told that there may be bacteria and we are going to treat a bacterial infection. I got the earliest appointment I could with ophthalmology. Had I been told to get in to see the ophthalmologist as soon as possible, as that veterinarian claims they are not an ophthalmologist and isn't sure what that could be, I would have waited in the ophthalmology waiting room with my cat as a walk in. With all due respect, I would not expect a general veterinarian to have the same knowledge as an ophthalmologist would, but I would expect them to know of possible concerns or outcomes with these types of conditions, and therefore understand the urgency of a matter at that time, or inform me of possible complications as such. After reading about herpes simplex keratitis, it can cause some significant complications and I wish I was told clearly what they were thinking, as it was never mentioned.
Furthermore, the day of here teeth cleaning, I did mention the eye and it was briefly seen by the veterinarian, although she was there for teeth cleaning, and I did explain when she will be seeing the ophthalmologist to them and the date of the visit, but I guess they don't remember that. I remember the veterinarian saying that the ophthalmologist was very good. I knew she was there for teeth cleaning, so what else could I do on that day but wait for the ophthalmologist? I also, in the notes, saw that that the veterinarian who cleaned her teeth documented that her eye was perfectly normal. I am sure that that was an oversight on their part, yet the eye was not normal.
I did quite a bit of research and spoke to several veterinarians before making a decision to write this review. I may have called to speak to Boca Park animal hospital, but that does not mean that I'm OK with the outcome. I am not a veterinarian and I will not pretend to be one. I spoke to several veterinarians, read articles on the condition, and learned as much as I could to understand the condition, as it was never explained to me as even a potential diagnosis until I saw the ophthalmologist.
Finally, I don't think that they understand why I chose to put a new review into yelp. One of their front desk personnel, who I am told is no longer there, placed a note into the patient's medical chart, which had nothing to do with my cat's medical issues that day, and it is in the chart as part of the medical record, which is not appropriate. I have witnesses who were with me that day and they were completely beside themselves when I told them what was documented. I did discuss this with the owner.
Am I frustrated by the fact that I felt the veterinarian should've been clearer about the diagnosis and not told me that it's not urgent? Of course I am. Yet to see a note in the chart, from someone at the front desk, who has no business documenting anything on a medical chart, placing a scenario that was false, as it never happened, into the chart to their advantage, is not good. I do not want to continue with this clinic because I cannot trust this office after that. That is why I chose to put in a review and something like this only deserves one star. I do not believe in altercations and was not interested in having an argument with anyone that I spoke to on the phone. I felt that documenting my experience was most appropriate as I do not want to take this any further than this review.
I appreciate the responses, but it does not change the fact that there was a lack of proper information/informed consent, lack of urgency, and other concerning issues as already mentioned above. The veterinarians here are all very nice people. I am not surprised they have a lot of clients that are loyal to them and that love them. I also have no doubt that they will be successful no matter what. Yet after my recent experiences, I plan on a different office that I can trust for the care of me pets.
