| - I grew up in the era of TRL (eh hem, Total Request Live - for those of you who are too young to know...), so naturally, I owned every Britney Spears album there was to possibly own. I've seen Britney perform many times in her younger years with *N SYNC and solo, but this was the first time I've seen her live since she split from K-Fed and went through that crazy phase in her life.
Unfortunately, I'm sad to report that Britney really has gone downhill. Let's face it...she was never the most talented Mouseketeer on the block (we all know JT and Christina Aguilera could outsing her any day), but at least she used to TRY. Throughout the entire show, she barely moved at all, lip sang the whole time, and basically just waved her hands in half ranges of motions! Super disappointing, considering she used to be such a good dancer...but her entire show appears half-assed at best. Britney herself seemed listless, lazy, and disengaged - I barely saw any energy coming out of her, and I was literally right next to her for most of the show. Also, is it just me - or do all of her more recent songs all sound the same?!?!! Even though I keep up with all of her current music, I literally felt like I was listening to the same song over and over again, especially since they were just playing recordings for her to mouth along to.
The only slightly redeeming thing about this show is the venue. Planet Hollywood is actually surprisingly small, so almost every seat in the house will get you pretty close to the front stage, although obviously the closer seats are more expensive (~$200+, which is still much cheaper than a JT concert!). Unless you're super nostalgic like I am and have a burning desire to see Britney because you're a diehard fan, I highly recommend spending your hard earned gambling money on another concert, since it seems like everyone and their Moms are doing a Vegas residency stint nowadays.
