I just took the 7 mile kayak trip this past Saturday and it was a blast! 2 of the 4 people in my group had never kayaked before and the staff were friendly and helpful when picking out the paddles and life jackets and everything. It's also one of the cheaper trips in the area and they offer longer trips than many of the other surrounding places.
What I love about camp hi is that they bring you to the drop off site on a bus and get you situated in your kayak or canoe and then everything is at your own pace from there. You have no set times or guided tour to follow so you can kayak swim and pull off at your own leisure. You are allowed small coolers so any type of beverage is allowed. Even alcohol. Just be smart and no glass bottles or littering. It's a very laid back place on a very calm stretch of river.
It's an excellent place for people new to kayaking and canoeing and even experts who want to enjoy a few hours on the cuyahoga. There's a lot of great wildlife to be seen such as birds and frogs and flowers. Also an excellent trip for families.
The only downside is their "country" style bathrooms. They literally have no doors on them so it can get a little awkward and a little gross but it's all part of the great out doors I suppose.
If you are going on a weekend I highly recommend getting there as early as possible we arrived at 9am when they opened and our bus left with about 12 people so we had a great stretch of river to ourselves. Once we returned the buses were completely full and people were still waiting. So they get very very busy and they do not require any reservations so be sure to arrive early to ensure your spot and get a kayak or canoe without having to wait for others to return.
