| - I'm one of THOSE people whose animals get the utmost in care, premium pet food, comfy beds, and all the finest in life. But, no, my animals do not run amuck in my house causing chaos. There are rules and boundaries in the household, since animals - much like children - actually benefit from structure and limits on freedom. Still, I'm a very involved dog and cat "mom" and all of my "furkids" are rescues from kill shelters or the streets. Excellent vet care is an absolute must.
I felt a little lost after moving here and no longer being a "regular" at a superb veterinary office like I had been - for over 15 years - back east. (My CT vet is responsible for saving the lives of two of my furbabies because of her amazing surgical skills). I was nervous about finding quality vet care that came with with compassion. I knew it might take me a few tries to find the right fit.
I patroned a few other valley vet offices with my older cat this summer. All of those experiences were disappointing, inconclusive and/or frustrating. Then I took my older kitty to Goodyear Animal Hospital and by happenstance, we met Dr. Taylor Zumbusch. I must say, I LOVE Dr. Taylor! She was so good with my older kitty, who panics and actually hyperventilates going to the vet. Dr. Taylor treated him like royalty and made him feel more at ease.
Dr. Taylor is very young, but to me that gives her an edge because she's enthusiastic and open (as opposed to a senior veterinarian, who *might* get burnt out and set in her ways). Dr. Taylor is a fantastic communicator. She's agreeable to conservative treatments and doesn't push expensive tests, procedures or diagnostic tools. She discusses all treatment options with the pet guardian and answers questions thoroughly. She is knowledgable and professional, yet she is not at all standoffish. She is so affectionate and warm with the animals. Their anxieties about being in a vet's office truly lessen because of her fabulous "bedside manner". I have requested Dr. Taylor for subsequent vet visits after having a not-so-terrific experience with another vet there. From now on, I will always request Dr. Taylor.
I give Goodyear Animal Hospital four stars instead of five for two reasons, neither of which has anything to do with Dr. Taylor: 1) First, the other vet there who saw my younger cat was disconnected, insensitive and dismissive. She misdiagnosed my sick cat and suggested unhelpful and very expensive "diagnostic" options, which I declined. (My cat was later diagnosed by a veterinary internal medicine specialist as having a rare and rapidly progressing form of cancer. We let her go to Rainbow Bridge in September to end her suffering). 2) Second, Goodyear Animal Hospital tends to be quite expensive. Even the shot of opioid pain medication that they had given my sick cat cost THREE times as much as the SAME exact dose given by the veterinary specialist (who's based out of Scottsdale and is known as the area's top veterinary internal medicine specialist).
So, if you take your precious pet to Goodyear Animal Hospital, I would recommend that you ask for your appointment to be with Dr. Taylor. I would also advise you to be prepared to shell out some serious cash!
