| - A long overdue review for one of my favorite restaurants in Las Vegas. The lobster pot pie here is one of my favorite dishes out of everything I've tried in the world, and it rightfully occupies that "My Last Meal on Earth" blurb in my Yelp profile. A 2.25 lb Maine lobster, perfectly cooked inside a pot pie with mushrooms and mixed vegetables in the most decadent sherry sauce I've ever had? Ugh. This is what I work out at the gym so much for, just so I can have it a few times a year.
There are two other must-haves: the ahi tuna tartare, which is served tableside mixed up with pine nuts and quail eggs, alongside brioche; and the caviar parfait - caviar on top of a mix of salmon and chives and creme fraiche, all over a lightly-fried potato shallot cake (which is the best "hash brown" I've ever had... and I love my hash browns).
This review is not without negatives; I am definitely not a fan of this place going downmarket over the years. For example, today's chilled seafood platter is but a shadow of what it once was (don't bother with it). Many of the higher-end selections (such as in their steaks) are long gone. Also, why get rid of the famous Michael Mina tasting trios?
However, the service has not suffered any sign of going downmarket. The servers are as attentive as ever without being at all overbearing or pretentious. The master sommelier here (Joe) is an awesome person to just chat with about wines. I love bouncing all my random wine thoughts off him, and he's really nice to humor me.
And the bottom line is this: to have a meal consist of the caviar parfait, tuna tartare, lobster pot pie, and root beer float to finish comes very close to what I would consider a perfect meal. And to have every course be from the same restaurant? How could I not give this place 5*?
