  • After eating here twice, a review is in order. My husband and I went here on a weeknight for our anniversary dinner. The happy hour is excellent, 30 percent off drinks and food! The waiter greeted us as soon as we arrived, perfect amount of attention throughout the meal, not overbearing, but genuinely interested. I got the lobster bisque which I loved! Very inventive and excellent flavor. We also got the carpaccio which was sadly forgettable. We each got a specialty drink, I loved mine, but my husband though his was a bit sweet (pineapple and fruit based drink, kind of expected to be sweet). For my main course I got the salmon, smaller size portion. I was very pleasantly surprised. I had asked for it to be rare, and though it was a small size, it was absolutely perfect, crust on the outside, rare inside. the sauce had a lot of dill and tiny potatoes, very flavorful. My husband got the cassoulet, hearty with a lot of flavor packed in. I noticed that as we were served, the people doing the cooking in the kitchen were watching to see what we thought, a definite sign that this restaurant truly cares what people think of their food. The food here is not typical, they favor presentation and quality over quantity of food, but this is something I find refreshing. When I saw they do a four course meal with wine pairings every Monday for $40, I had to go back to try it! Again, I was completely satisfied with my experience. The menu was outstanding. To begin was a goat cheese tart with bacon, super high charged flavor. The next course was a type of forcemeat obviously house made, highly flavorful and one of my favorite courses of the night. It was served with some nuts and fruits and crisps, and also the wine for that course. The next course was the filet mignon, perfectly rare on the inside, crusted on the outside with a savory sauce that set it off. It was served with a deep complex red wine that complimented it nicely. I had to stuff myself to finish, but it was worth it! the final course was an apple pie, but unlike any other apple pie I have ever had before. It had tart apple, rich caramel, perfectly crisp crust and a creamy semi fredo on the side that fit perfectly. It was a meal I will never forget and an absolute steal for $40! We had enough wine from the 4 course pairings that my friend was tipsy upon leaving, though I was fine to drive. We were probably there an hour and a half to two hours, I am a slow eater. 43 North is most definitely worth checking out. It is refreshing to see something so unique and special amidst the typical offerings of the area.
