I am updating my original 2 star review to a 4 star review review of Affiliated Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons after Dr. Nelson followed up on my concerns and to check on me over a weekend. Dr. Nelson has been great to work with and I recommend that if you appreciate a little extra TLC and bedside manner from your Dr. that you request Dr. Nelson. Thank you!
Obviously Dr Bode has been doing this a while. However, his bedside manners are lacking. Just because someone is a top doctor (or surgeon) doesn't mean that his or her patients should feel like they are unimportant. I was referred to another surgeon first, but my primary dentist felt strongly that I should see Dr. Bode. I elected to have a back molar extracted using local anesthesia only (my body is sensitive to heavy drugs). After the first few seconds of Dr. Bode beginning to work on my tooth- I gave an initial squirm in the chair (for obvious reasons). He immediately stopped and stated that since he was "hardly putting any pressure on the tooth, perhaps I would rather reschedule and come back to be put to sleep for the procedure". Mind you, he is telling me this after 4 shots of numbing medication while the rubber lock and his instruments were in my mouth. Um, no- that does not sound like a good idea - or even a kind or polite idea. I would have much rather preferred that he apologize for any discomfort and remind me that the procedure wouldn't take long. Yes, I have had root canals done before - and they are also not pleasant. Doctors are able to perform top notch work and do it with kindness. Unfortunately, I did not get that experience with Dr. Bode today.
