| - Unlike a lot of the other reviewers, I've actually had a decently good run with Cox. The place where I live has a contract with Cox for cable, and originally I wanted to go with Verizon Fios for my internet but it wasn't available where I live. So I went with cox. I pay for cable through my apartment, so I only deal directly with Cox for my internet. I got the 15/5 package, and chose home installation. It was a little tricky setting up everything in the beginning and I had to call in to their tech support because after getting everything hooked up there was no internet, but the guy was great and helped me through solving what the problem was. I don't expect cox to blatantly tell me they're raising my fees. I ALWAYS check my bill to see if there are any changes, they print them on the bill before any of the changes go into effect so that if you don't like any of the changes you can cancel your service. I only ever got one raise in my bill and it was for only a couple of dollars, which ended up getting negated anyway since I wanted to put my internet on hold a few months back, I wasn't going to be gone the one month they require and instead the guy I talked with gave me a huge discount! My bill went from $67, down to $55 and that's including the $10 modem rental(my advice just buy one if you plan on keeping cox for a while! That way you don't have to return the modem when you cancel.) I pay each month added to my bill. Anyway, it's been a great run with Cox. They've even given me speed upgrades at no extra cost for me! I'm now rocking 32/20 speeds. Recently though it seems like my internet has been having these hiccups and webpages have been somewhat slow to load. I can't figure out if it's because my modem is crapping out, too many people in the area are on the internet (cox uses a communal type of internet and so you can sometimes expect slower internet during peak times), or if it's just something wrong with cable lines or on cox's end. Unfortunately my apartment is ending its contract with Cox starting beginning of August and I'll be out of the country starting in a few days and wont be back before then so I'm just canceling straight away. All in all, I'll definitely miss this internet provider. They're big, but they aren't verizon big yet, and with more and more people signing on I think they're having some trouble.
I also think a lot of the bad reviews are coming from people who just put their bills on easypay and don't check their statements monthly to see if anything has changed or will be changed..! If you want to have an easy experience, I say definitely go with Cox as they will treat you just as you treat them! Remember to have patience if problems arise, it's not always the fault of the customer service rep, and if you act courteously with the CS reps they will definitely help you out and wont hesitate to give you amazing deals!
