| - I used to like OneGuard, but it seems over the past 4 - 6 months they have fallen into the Home Warranty abyss where they could care less about you and will do anything to find ways to charge you.
1. Customer Service - I used to feel valued; they'd take the time, make recommendations etc. Now they seem curt and like any other home warranty - out for the buck and not the customer.
2. Shoddy contractors - See above. We've had OneGuard for several years. Initially, the contractors they sent were decent, even great in a few cases. The last two service calls however, they are shifty, untrustworthy, bottom of the barrel contractors - who I wouldn't trust to work dirt let alone, my house. Oh, you can call and ask for a 2nd opinion, but that will cost you a second 70.00 service fee. Example - was having issue with A/C, we have the extended, no-fault coverage (their supposed top of the line), the A/C people came out, didn't actually look at the A/C unit, didn't get into the crawl space to look at the duct work but somehow made an assessment that it was the duct work. We got a vague message from the contractor that it'd cost us between 1000 - 1500 (that is a 50% variation on a quote) to fix but didn't tell us exactly what the issue was that they were fixing. So I called OneGuard, they said that they don't cover duct work, even though the contract say it does. When challeneged, after 30 mins on hold and multiple transfers, they changed their mind that they cover duct work, just not this scenario. Again, how could they make that assessment if they didn't actually look at the ductwork. OneGuards answer, oh because they are professional and just know this type of thing. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This could go on and on, the different versions of the story, the multiple phone calls to try to get information or talk to someone at least logical. It is the typical, can't really tell you anything but we'll stand behind the crappy contractor no matter how bad the assessment is and charge you more fees if you want a second opinion.
3. They don't follow through. We've had multiple issues where we've inquired about something, were told they'd get back to us and never did. We ultimately end up just going to Angies List and getting someone that has good reviews and paying for it out of pocket.
4. They tried to reactivate a canceled work order and then tried to charge us for it. They had a "special" running which seemed like a good deal. When I called to inquire, they started to set up the work order but in the process of explaining exactly what they were doing, I determined it wasn't what I needed and cancelled the request. 2 months later I get an email "confirming the appointment" and who the contractor is. I call to find out what is going on and they stated that they reinstated the work order because they thought it was something I needed. They seemed angry when I told them I'd cancelled it months ago and wouldn't pay for something I didn't order/use. They argued about me "not needing" this and seemed put-out that I didn't want it.
Save your money. In the end, they fight you on everything and send in sub-par contractors who do the least amount possible, so on top of the enormous aggravation you'll end up paying for it in the long run anyway.
