I am just astonished by the high ratings of this hotel. I think it is one of the worst resorts I've stayed in.
What I liked:
1) The breakfast buffet. The breakfast is superb. The Croissants and other bread/pastry selections are excellent - on par with the best hotels. The eggs are made to order. I really enjoyed my breakfasts here.
2) Staff are very nice. They really go out of their way to try to make you happy. E.g. when I complained about the worn out mattress, they sent someone out to buy a latex mattress topper.
3) Free parking.
What I did not like:
1) Rooms are old and worn out. There were several visible stains on the carpets. The beds look like they are 10 years old. The furniture is scratched. Quite frankly in the middle of the night I would put on my socks to go to the bathroom, because I was concerned about my feet coming into contact with the filthy carpet.
2) Dirty. The floor of room had all sorts of debris - raisins, nuts, twigs etc. in the corners/edges of the room. The cleaner was obviously not very thorough vacuuming. Also I saw remnants of mud prints on the tile floor in the bathroom, suggesting they were sloppy with the mop too. When I see this kind of dirtiness, I wonder what else they aren't cleaning.
3) Dangerous bath tub. Extremely slippery. I fell over and got injured.
Bottom line: There is a much better hotel across the street - the Intercontinental Montelucia. Go there even if you have a conference at the Marriott.
