First time staying here in over 20 years on 7/23. Booked two rooms for my daughter's 16th birthday slumber party. Had a good time and enjoyed the rooms, grounds, service and food/drinks. Had an issue with being charged for items from previous room guests but staff was extremely helpful to clear it up.
Check in starts getting busy after 10 but moves ok. Had to wait about 20min at 11:30. Went at 8:30 the next day and no wait. Rooms were not ready till 4 but just hung out at the Waterpark having delicious frozen drinks while the kids played until they were ready.
Had dinner at rustlers rooste, highly recommended if you want rustic atmosphere and cowboy fare with amazing views. There is a shuttle from the lobby that will take you there and back.
Only con was the Waterpark on the day we were there. It was nice but overcrowded, could not use any of the water attractions or pools without constantly bumping or rubbing into people and chase lounges were packed in so tight that you would bump into your neighbor there too. Just did not have that relaxing spacious resort feel there. Just must have hit it on a full weekend, and admit I am the type that doesn't like crowds. Water was cloudy, warm and dirty and on a 114 degree day did not provide much cooling/refreshing relief. Kind of a disappointment compared to Sun Splash according to the kids and given the elevated summer resort fee you are better off going there if you are just wanting a Waterpark without the room.
It's a resort so yes you are going to pay resort prices and the prices were pretty average if not better than other area resorts. I'm no better than anyone else and just an average Joe but the attitude and lack of class of many of the other guests I observed tends to match the reviews criticizing resort fees and food/drink prices which were well advertised on the website and explained during the booking and check in process. It's not motel 6 or holiday inn folks, do your research.
