Recently, I had lunch at Garfield's on the lake at Desert Shores. I loved everything about the restaurant EXCEPT the food! I started with a fairly tasteless spinach salad and continued with the chef's special ravioli. I was expecting maybe a homemade ravioli? Instead I got a dish of tiny little uniform Parmesan raviolis in a greasy butter sauce. The waiter described the sauce as a chardonnay reduction! These raviolis were very familiar to me because they were identical to the kind I bought at Trader Joe's and from Barilla for my son when he was about three years old; they come dry in a bag and you boil them. I can't believe a waiter would even encourage a diner asking about it to order this dish! I thought it must be a joke. I'm not the type to cause a scene or send food back, and since I was dining with friends I kept my mouth shut. Sadly, this is such a shame and the food such a disappointment because this is a darling restaurant with a great location and the service was very good. I would be very reluctant to return and try something different given my first experience there. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone serious about decent quality food. Maybe it would be a good spot to have a drink and enjoy the view but if the quality of food they served me is the rule rather than the exception they are in trouble.
