  • One of the things I love about Las Vegas, and is one of the things rarely brought to attention when mentioning Vegas, is their fixation with designing interiors made to look like exteriors. Case in point - The Venetian. Everyone knows about the statues and the carefully painted walls of sky, but it's also nice that they coordinate their businesses to go with the outdoor theme indoors. Other case in point - Postrio (inside The Venetian). My girls took me here for a pre-bachelorette festivities dinner. My first thought on in this place was "Argh, another Italian place? Ok, just smile and pretend to like it." My second thought was, "Oh cool, they've got sleek, modern-looking planters and an "outdoor" patio in front of the "inside" inside restaurant." I kicked off the meal with a glass of Sangria, pleasant, but not much kick and I've definitely had better (my fave is Fresca in San Francisco). I ordered the Porcini Mushroom Ravioli and a side of asparagus, I hadn't eaten since breakfast and thought the ravioli wouldn't be enough. The ravioli skin was tender and the savory sauce marinated beautifully with it. I gave my friend a taste, and she liked it so much, she kept dipping her bread in it! The asparagus was presented with two types - the traditional green and also, white. Sauteed asparagus seems a hard one to master, and though the dish was better than average, I'd suggest cooking longer as the outside was a bit chewier than I liked. After polishing off my meal, which would have been filling enough with just the ravioli, I had a bite of my friend's Spaghettini Pasta...it was phenomenal for just noodles and marinara! I literally had one bite, as I was very full already, but that spaghetti was likely the best spaghetti I've ever had. The prices are steep for what you get, but for special occasions or for moments of 'I just feel like eating somewhere nice', this is the place to go.
