  • I purchased what I thought was a great deal on Groupon. I knew I would be in town later that month so I thought it would be nice to get a massage. I called several days before my visit to book an 80 minute Swedish massage at 10am. The earliest they had was 11am. Had to change something on my schedule but no problem, I booked the 11am. The night before my appointment, they called me to see if I could change my 80 minute to a 50 minute massage. From what I was told, they had some employees call in so they were going to be short-staffed. I was told the only time they could do an 80 minute was at 5pm. Nope, that wouldn't work for me at all. I was a little annoyed since a 50 minute is more like a tease massage for me...it's not even a full hour. Since I had to use the Groupon during my visit, I agreed to the 50 minute. They said they would give me 30% off for the inconvenience, unless I was using a discount or a Groupon. So, what I gathered from this was that this was only considered an inconvenience if you paid full price. Since I was already getting a discount, this sort of thing should have been acceptable. The spa was clean and the staff seemed nice enough. My massage was subpar and didn't really relax me much. The oil or lotion she was using was really cold brought me out of any sort of relaxed feeling every time it was applied. They even have the nerve to charge you before the massage and take an AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity. That pretty much took the cake for me. To take an automatic 20% tip after an inconvenience and a below average massage is ridiculous. A gratuity should be up to me and taken after the massage. It defeats the purpose to take it before my actual spa experience. What am I really tipping for at that point? They haven't done anything yet to deserve one. Then again, maybe that's why they take payment up front...because they know the experience isn't worth the money, even at a discount. I had a better experience before they became Oleksandra Spa. I won't be back.
