A disappointing dining experience at Spoon last week. A long time favorite has slowly been loosing its edge. While the menu items still offer a declining number of inspired treats it's service standards have been in a free fall. The most recent example would never have happened a few years ago at Spoon. Perhaps the restaurant boom in Pittsburgh is making it more challenging to find top quality servers. Ours last week varied from indifferent to useless to sarcastic. Questions about the menu were answered with indifference at best and disdain at worst. The nadir was reached when he was clearing our entree plates. One of our guests had barely touched a risotto-like dish which wasn't to her liking. I had ordered the same item and found it to be acceptable but not worthy of a reorder at a subsequent visit. I pointed out to the server that our guest hadn't really enjoyed her selection and left it all but uneaten and he responded by saying ---and I kid you not --- "well, you ate all of yours". And that was that. So much for gaining customer insight for the chef.
