This hotel and casino is super kool. It was there the first time I ever came to Las Vegas in the summer of 1979. I paid a visit to it then and over the years I have been back many times. I can tell you one thing the place looks different then it did the first time I came that's for sure.
There are only three other strip casinos older than Circus Circus and when it opened in 1968 it was only a casino no hotel rooms. It's has a lot of kool history. Tony the "Ant" Spilotro ran the gift shop of the Circus Circus in the early 1970's. He is the Chicago mobster who's career was the basis of the hit movie casino. Joe Pesci play his character.
I give the Circus Circus a strong three stars. There is good and not so good here. I have a little sentimental ties to this hotel and casino. There aren't many casino left from my first visits to Las Vegas. So it does bring back memories of the way Las Vegas use to be.
Let's start with the good. Rooms are super cheap here. Probably the cheapest on the strip. It's easy to get rooms here for like $30 or $40 bucks a night. This is nice because it give people that can't afford the Aria or Wynn a chance to stay on the strip and to have a lot of fun with the kids. How can I say this without being mean and it's not meant that way, this hotel at times had a "different" clientele then say the Aria or the Wynn. Hope that makes sense without being mean, don't want to offend.
While from its opening in 1968 and for a couple decades this hotel was constantly upgraded. From just a Casino to a hotel and casino. Constantly adding hotel towers and buildings, to the super kool Adventuredome. This is a five acre enclosed amusement park complete with roller coasters and 25 other popular carnival type rides. It had a huge carnival/Circus midday with all the fun games. They also still do a circus shows I believe daily.
There are some nice shops here that give you a boardwalk feel. You can really get some good buys here. There's plenty of places to eat and drink, the Steakhouse is good food, Vince Neil of Motley Crue fame has a bar here, they have a buffet and several other decent places to eat.
The hotel is is on the far north end of the strip. It's a good location. It's a bit of a hike to places like New York New York Hotel and Casino and the MGM Grand for example but, with all the new developments going on around it should be kinda smack dab in the middle of it all. It's not a bad walk the the Wynn or Venetian for those more northern strip casinos and right across the street of the newer SLS.
The future of this place? A lot of my casino friends say it will go. But I have a little insider informant saying it won't and that it's a cash cow for MGM. I get it, the place is always crowded and I'm sure the place has paid for itself many times over and has probably helped to finance other MGM Hotels on the Strip.
As far as gambling, the minimum table bets are some of the lowest in the strip. This last visit we met a super rude roulette table operator though. Most others working there are nice.
I'm a Blackjack guy and don't really do Slots but I believe it was one of the last strip casinos (and maybe still has a couple) to use coin in and coin out Slots. I like those older slot machines.
My first visit to Las Vegas Circus Circus had just purchased Slots-a-Fun Casino next door. Circus Circus is and MGM hotel and Casino now. I'm my opinion, this hotel could use an upgrade. A major upgrade. Other than that it's a fun place to bring the kids while in Vegas and a nice place to gamble and eat. I hope this place sticks around.
