| - Nooooo! What has happened to our beloved Sonoma Grille and who hired the culinary students?
Absolutely without a doubt the worst dinner and service I've ever had at a Pittsburgh resturant. Where should I start? The waitstaff? Oh my, Matt I believe was his name, and although he was pleasant to chat with he was MIA thru most of the meal, never removed the dirty appetizer ( tapas for two) dishes, and only became cordial when I complained about our cold dinners. And cold they were! Ugh. Unbelievable for a 40 minute wait for food. Also the female waiter that delivered our meals, first placed them in front of the couple at the table next to ours, then plopped them down in front of us without saying a word. I should have refused them right then, but after such a long ordeal to get bread and the appetizer, I didn't want to take a chance of not being served dinner till dawn!
I had the Pork Porchetti, which was over cooked and over salted. It was served with these 3 petite carrots that honest to Pete, were completely fibrous and hard as a rock. I can't explain what was in the mystery sauce underneath it all- maybe tomatoes, zucchini- one pearl onion and a toss of pine nuts. I ate one of the two medallions and offered the other one to my dinner partner. He took 1 bite and wouldn't eat it. Dry, hard and burnt.
He had chosen the sea bass, which was merely fair. You really can't ruin plain fish can you?
The manager did comp us for our 2 glasses of wine- the least he could do for a subpar meal costing $80 not including the wine & tip...
I understand the Sonoma has changed hands and is under new management. I wish them luck, and hope they find success hiring a new chef.
