I was very prepared to hate the "new" Palm. After all, the Palm oozes tradition, old school dining experience and I've been eating at this location for more than 20 years. When we stopped by earlier in the day to make our reservation the new lighting, elevated seating and open floor plan were nothing like the clubby atmosphere of the Palm of old. But when we arrived for our 9pm reservation we were given a very nice half moon shaped booth that overlooks the entire restaurant. I loved the new booths; they are intimate and acoustically designed so that even on the busiest and nosiest of nights you can easily hear your dinner companions. For dinner we started with the Hearts of Palm Salad (what else!). Delicious as always. We aren't big eaters so we split the 14 ounce fillet. It came out on two plates, perfectly done and was excellent. Many restaurants give you a dirty look if you split and entree. I have never had that experience at the Palm. For sides we had the creamed corn and au gratin potatoes. Honestly, the creamed corn is the best I've ever had. We had a nice bottle of Chardonnay, a Bennzinger, for only $40. With tax and tip dinner was less than $200. Not cheap but not expensive by current Vegas standards. We are very happy that the Palm has reopened and despite our initial reservations, impressed with the new layout and look. Excellent dining experience.
