| - We went to Fixe for their 4-course brunch. At 18.50$, we thought it was a bargain. It's well worth the price, although the entree portion was smaller than we expected and the wait time was above average to say the least.
Of course, brunch on a Sunday morning meant that the place was extra-busy. They only had one waitress running the whole place, with a barista. We waited around 10 minutes to be seated even with a reservation, then waited some more to get the menu, to order and more time elapsed before we got our food. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic about the wait time, and we couldn't help but feel empathy for her as she was frantically whirling around the place. Makes you wonder why they don't hire another waitress. Our brunch ended up lasting a little bit over 2 hours.
The brunch special consists of a fruit cocktail (a 1.5 shotglass-sized smoothie), an entree, a main dish and a dessert.
For the entree, I highly recommend the buffalo yogurt with granola and preserves. The yogurt was creamy and fresh, the honey-roasted nut granola had pieces of walnut and pistachios and the ratio between the two was perfect.
For the main dish, we both took the classic gravlax on sesame bagel, with 2 poached eggs. It was very good, but not exceptional. I have to mention that the eggs were perfect: just runny enough, but not too much. We would have like more of the whipped cream cheese dill spread though: there was only a small bit in a metal cup.
As for the dessert, the brownie is more of a fudge piece, good thing that the portion is small! The creme brulee had a thick and golden crust, but somewhat lacked flavour.
The latte was a hit: coffee is scrumptious, and mousse is very thick and creamy. That being said, I would've liked to be able to substitute an espresso for the fruit cocktail.
Verdict: very good brunch place, with great menu choices, but few aspects to improve!
