| - A few years ago I adopted my sweet chihuahua Rex. I took him home and he was sick as hell, almost died from pneumonia from bad kennel cough, luckily I was able to save him after a couple weeks of meds.
But why was he so damn sick? Because the place is FILTHY and the cages are crowded af!!! Anyways poor Rex passed away a year and a half later due to what we believe was a heart condition he was born with.
Fast forward to Friday, my fiancé and I decided it was time to get another pupper. The place hasn't changed; it's filthy and depressing. But I mean it's a pound, not the Hilton right?
So we picked out this sweet boy who was surrendered by his owner, and we're told we have to pick him up on Tuesday after he gets neutered; which I'm all for! I'm so glad they won't let their dogs out without being fixed-very responsible.
The volunteer who helped us was SO kind she was a young girl, very nice I wish I remembered her name. Anyways that's about where the kindness ends lol
We go to pay for our friend and the woman in the front was a big fat b***h. Good lord if I hadn't wanted that dog I would have walked away.
Since we couldn't pick him up for 4 days we were told that we could come back and visit and get to know him. This is how that went...
We come back Saturday when it opened at 11 am. Go to the back and tell a volunteer our situation, she was SO SASSY for absolutely no reason and said "well you can look at him through the cage but I can't let him out." Um okay...I asked why that was and she replied with "it's policy. NEXT!" While we're still standing at the window...lol!!
So I decided to go ask an employee...
Employee: "no I can't take him out, because he's been adopted, he has an owner."
Me: "yes, I'm his owner!"
E: "right it's a liability issue since he's been adopted we can't risk it"
Me: "what exactly are you risking? I've paid for the dog and I was told I could visit him"
Yes I realize I'm arguing with an employee who doesn't make the rules. But why is it so damn hard for people to just clarify instead of brushing you off?
So according to the employee since the dog is adopted they will no longer touch it meaning he's been trapped in that cage for four days because they aren't even allowed to take him on a walk.
This boils my blood.
I would sign a damn paper to let them take him out if I had to, you're really going to punish the poor thing because I paid for him already??
We brought him treats and toys, came back Sunday and they had thrown his toys away :( it's just sad, the attitude of the employees and volunteers is sad and the way they treat their animals is sad.
Yeah so in conclusion this shelter is sh*t. Go to the west one, it's 100X nicer and the employees are so kind there. We adopted a healthy happy kitten from west and we were crazy to adopt from east again, although I am excited to bring our baby home!!
