  • I have been dealing with bilateral clogged ears, buzzing in one ear & vertigo for about 2 months now. Thank you pneumonia! I had no issues getting an appointment-my messages were promptly returned. Unfortunately I had to wait 2 weeks. Located on Sunset between 215 & Russell, office is very easy to find. My appointment was for 9am with an 8:30am arrival. Why? No clue. I took it upon myself to download new patient paperwork prior to my appointment so I didn't waste time filling anything out. That I was proactive & came prepared by the way the front desk greeted me they thought THEY were the ones who instructed me to do this. They did not. My health has a 20% coinsurance & $00 copay. The agreement with my plan & their in network providers is the provider will not collect copays upfront because it's a percentage of services rendered, not a flat rate, and since no one knows WHAT services will be rendered until my appointment the patient is to be billed. Imagine my surprise when I was asked for $20. Not a large amount; however not only did this violate their contract with my plan, when I asked how was that amount determined since I hadn't been seen? No response given (because it was some arbitrary amount pulled out of thin air) other than $20 is your copay. No. It's not. It's 20% coinsurance. Clearly stated on my insurance card. What's also clearly stated on it is $00 for copays! When I arrived at 8:30am this office was PACKED!! Within 15 minutes everyone, including myself, was taken back. I met with Dr Tolan. Forget the paperwork I filled out that detailed my symptoms. Forget the fact I told the nurse my detailed symptoms. He either didn't read or speak to the nurse because when he walked in reading my chart he didn't seem the least bit interested in what I was saying: clogged ears, tinnitus & vertigo lasting over 45 days in conjunction with pneumonia. During the middle of my telling him this, while I am in mid sentence, he pulls out a recorder & begins dictating my chart! WTF is THIS unprofessionalism?!? He tells me my hearing tests were normal and tells me to go see my dentist because my ear problems are a result of TMJ. First, I have 50% hearing loss in my left ear as a consequence of spinal meningitis in 1974. There is NO WAY I passed the hearing test. I only clicked the button 5 times listening for the tone, and I couldn't repeat words spoken in my left ear because the BUZZING in my left ear leaves me with very very limited hearing! Second, I don't have jaw pain, or TMJ. At checkout I was asked for ANOTHER $20 for the hearing test. I asked for a receipt & this snot got attitude saying how they always give receipts. So let me be more specific since she clearly doesn't "get" what I am asking for: a HICFA or itemized receipt listing CPT & diagnosis codes. Oh she didn't like that, but I got what I asked for. I sat in my car for 10 minutes replaying the events in that office wondering WTH just happened? what did I learn while I was there? Answer: nothing. Waste of my time. Waste of $40. I now have ANOTHER appointment elsewhere because clearly this practice & Dr Tolan are unprofessional, below the standard care. Seriously, you're going to tell someone who has been diagnosed with 50% hearing loss that they PASSED a hearing test? I saw my dentist a few days later & mentioned this to him. He laughed. My ears are STILL clogged and the noise - buzzing, high pitched squeal - is louder today than it was 2 weeks ago when I was at this office.
