| - A charming place! From the moment you walk up to it, the facade with the cafe tables outside instantly create a lovely environment. My husband and I sat at the bar and had great conversation with the bartender Joe.
We originally went just for some cocktails and to scope out the place:
- And God Created Woman - a subtle drink with a very fancy "B" embedded into the foam. Almost too pretty to drink. This one was pretty, but not very much flavor to it.
- Le Detroit - again, they make these drinks look like art! This one has flowers and an ice sphere that almost looks like it glows thanks to the green chartreuse. The chartreuse is pretty strong on the palate, so if you don't like that liquor, I'd skip this one.
- Notre Dame - by far my favorite. It had a little bit of everything I like: gin, citrus flavor, and champagne. It was like a kicked up French 75.
- Man About Town - similar to a Negroni, but not as much spice.
Well, once the liquor started settling in, we got hungry, naturally:
- Charcuterie - this dish is $25 and you do not get a lot of meat. My husband is obsessed with charcuterie, so we've had it at many a restaurant, and the price is comparable to other restaurants, but the amount of meat is not. It was delicious pate, prosciutto, salumi, and rillette...but a very small amount.
- French Onion Soup - Oh man, this comes out covered in bubbly cheese and is a bit salty, but in a good way.
- Mac and Cheese Gratinee - it's like a sculpted square of mac and cheese in this yummy, delicate sauce. I liked it.
- Chocolate Macaron - if you like chocolate, this will be your jam.
- Strawberry Coupe Glacee - it was basically strawberry ice cream with crunchy, melt in your mouth meringue bits. Pretty tasty.
What was really cool, though, was that Michael Mina himself came out to talk to some people at the bar and asked us how the food and drinks were. Very cool getting to meet the man in charge of a restaurant empire!
I would definitely come again. The bar was delightful, but the restaurant itself would make for a fabulous birthday/anniversary/special event dinner.
