  • It's been two weeks since we thoroughly enjoyed a French bistro brunch weekend in Las Vegas and the tastes and sights linger strongly in memory. Before reviewing our Sunday brunch experience at Aria's Bardot, allow a few words about Saturday's brunch at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris. We had been looking forward to MAG for quite a while and made reservations through Open Table. Three quick Mon Ami Gabi observations... 1) a seat at an open air pavilion table, while not directly overlooking the strip is still a most pleasant repast which didn't require a wait. 2) I've never seen a wait staff hustle through tight aisles so effortlessly, while balancing large trays of dishes high above their heads on extended arms and fingertips. Very impressive. 3) we had an issue with over cooked poached eggs. They were immediately replaced by not only freshly and perfectly poached eggs, but with an entirely new plate of corned beef hash (delicious, moist, well seasoned), along with a replacement of their wonderful hash browns and toast. This was true customer service...correct a mistake with an apology and a smile. Well done and much appreciated MAG! Now, for the second half of our brunch weekend...Bardot Brasserie While the newly designed space (formerly American Fish, also from Michael Mina) is elegant and very comfortable, there is no outside dining option as it's located on the Promenade level at Aria. We started with the most unique Bloody Mary's we have tasted. Apparently, the barkeepers use freshly made vegetable juice and the addition of a cucumber strip in the drink adds a delightful taste and somehow lightens the drink. Delicious! As I was about to break off a piece of the crusty loaf of French bread which was served in a paper bag, our brunch choices arrived. Previous reviews indicated that the brioche french toast was a must have dish. Have you ever been served a meal that required that you just stare at it as if you're trying to believe what you're seeing? Well, we did that. A huge thick (but light) serving which was crisp on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. Accompanied by vanilla mascarpone and maple syrup, this, as well as the beautifully presented Swiss chard eggs Benedict made for a totally enjoyable and memorable Sunday morning treat. And there was no way we were not going to finish off that great loaf of French bread and butter. The kicker, however was the side of bacon. Sourced from Neuske's, this must have been their triple thick bacon. A five dollar order was plenty for us to share and as good as the date glazed bacon was at MAG the previous day, the Bardot bacon was well, even better. Excellent service...and coffee rounded out this experience. Our bill was in the $50 range, but well worth it for such a wonderful brunch and quite frankly culinary memory. Our only regret was that with plans already for our remaining two evenings, we didn't get a chance to come back for what I assume would be a great happy hour. Next time for sure.
