| - Despite growing up in Pittsburgh, I rarely came to Kennywood because my family always went to Idlewild & Soak Zone. So before moving out of Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future, I wanted to make a trip here. My friend has a season pass, and I got to go with her for free. We came in on a week day from about 4:45 PM - 10:00 PM, and we did get to ride a decent amount.
Obviously, there are some classic things you should ride here. The Jack Rabbit, Racer, and Thunderbolt are all fun wooden coasters. I also really like the log jammer here because it has two hills, which leads to double the fun. Be sure not to skip the Kangaroo! I have never seen another ride like it, and it is silly but fun. The park tries to add a new ride every few years, but this is a local park so don't come expecting to see record-breaking things popping up constantly. Enjoy the old mixed with the new because it is really quite charming.
While some people adore the food in Kennywood, it is pretty much standard park fare. The Potato Patch fries are crazy popular, but since I don't enjoy potatoes much, I am the wrong person to talk to about that. I have had some decent chicken fingers and pizza over the years as well. For dessert, I am often attracted to the Dippin Dots, but the one really unique thing I enjoy is the Golden Nugget ice cream stand. It's a square of ice cream dipped in chocolate, and it is so good.
Is the park a little on the rough side? Yes. You will be subjected to all sort of language, and teenagers (even small children) will be running around without supervision. It's not ideal, but I don't have kids so it is not an issue for me.
If you are looking for a fun day, Kennywood can fill the bill in Pittsburgh for about $41.99/adult.
