  • I grew up with so many pets--we had dogs, horses, cats, birds, even a monkey and raccoon at one time. In all the years with our beloved pets, I have never known an animal hospital who truly cares about an animal's well-being more than Blue Cross Animal Hospital. They not only go above and beyond caring for your pet, but also care about pet owners and our feelings and concerns for our beloved best friends. I had been going to another animal hospital prior to Blue Cross, where I lost my female Sheltie, Bella to the disease AIHA last December. This disease took her from healthy to needing transfusions in one day, and it was devastating that we never brought our baby girl home. Skye, who we had before Bella, was also devastated and started to go downhill with the lost of her best friend. She presented issues with arthritis and it was getting progressively worse. I went back to her original vet and he just said "well the damage is done" and gave me no hope. I heard about Blue Cross from my boss who takes her dog to Dr. Wiggers and encouraged me to take Skye to see her. Dr. Wiggers was wonderful, she got Skye on a schedule of prednisone and she bounced back from struggling to get up to acting like she was a puppy. Dr. Wiggers was very attentive and called me periodically for the next couple weeks to check on Skye's improvement. Everything was going smoothly, til recently we had gone out of town for one night, Skye was being watched by a close friend who has been her regular sitter for a couple years now. When we got back the next day, my friend said she was coming over right away with Skye and that we needed to take her to the vet. I asked what was wrong and she said she was perfectly normal til after she ate breakfast she started spotting from her bottom. When she got out of the car she didn't show her usual enthusiasm to see me, she barely could walk and we took her into the house. She was laying down and she started shaking and looked listless. We rushed her over to Blue Cross. Dr. Wiggers was out, but we were very blessed to have Dr. Tack there that day to take on what was happening to Skye. It was very hard to leave Skye behind because it was all too familiar with last year how I had to leave Bella. Dr. Tack needed to run tests and wanted to put her on an IV and ice packs since her temperature was 105 and climbing. Our house was 2 minutes away so I went home for about an hour or so and waited for his call. At 3pm he called to give me an update that her fever was still too high and had only come down a little bit. He wanted to wait another hour to see what transpired before suggesting for her to go to critical care. I decided to go back over to the hospital and wait in the waiting room where all the staff is always so attentive and comforting. Johnny is especially great with pets and Skye adores him. It's interesting that at my former animal hospital both my dogs were always so scared, shaking -- couldn't wait to leave etc. Yet from the very first time we came to Blue Cross, Skye has been so chill and relaxed-never showing signs she wanted to bolt out the door. And that day we brought her in so sick, she knew they would take the best care of her. When we arrived we didn't have to sit and wait...Dr. Tack brought us back behind the scenes where Skye was on a table with ice packs and her IV. Her face lit up when we walked in, she knew everyone was there to help her. Dr. Tack took time to explain everything he was doing for her and also his thoughts on why this came about. He took time to answer all of our questions, all the while continuing to comfort Skye and not leave her out of the conversation. Skye knew he was saving her life, she looked at him intensely while he spoke. While we were there Skye's temperature came down more and more and her fever broke. Later, we were able to take her home with us as she continued to progress on the medicines that he gave her. We are so very grateful to Dr. Tack and his staff for their immediate attention to the critical situation that was happening, and for truly saving Skye's life. I recommend Blue Cross Animal Hospital to all pet owners who need an animal hospital they can trust 100%. You can be assured your pet will have the very best of care at Blue Cross!
