| - I reserved a rental car on KAYAK for E-Z Rent-A-Car. When we reserved the car, it showed that the car would be a 4-door, five seater with A/C, and unlimited milage; in the confirmation email and account, it also shows a four door vehicle. The confirmation says that the rental car would be a "Nissan
Versa Sedan or Similar".
However, when we arrived to the E-Z Rent-A-Car, we were informed that we would be receiving a VW Beetle Coupe but we had the option to upgrade for an additional fee to receive a 4-door sedan ($10 a day plus additional taxes).
The sales associate, Yari, was more than helpful to pull up our reservation and inform us of our three options: Settle with the coupe, upgrade, or cancel.
A coupe rental and a sedan rental are not similar.
As this was not a major setback, we reluctantly went ahead and paid the additional amount but it is extremely frustrating to go through the steps to reserve one vehicle then be informed that you will be receiving a smaller and different
style of vehicle and if you want to receive the vehicle original
reserved, you would need to pay additional costs.
That is how scams work; you pay for one thing then receive another. I also feel as of this was false advertisement and extremely miscommunicated. I am still very upset that we had to pay additional for the car when, at the time that we reserved the car, I could have reserved a standard or full size for less
than a dollar more a day.
The car we got was a nice newer model with 5k miles on it but had many black stains on many parts of the grey carpet and also had a slightly dented fender. It also had a "Maintenance Required" light that came on 2 days into the rental, which was a little worrisome.
The customer service from E-Z was unresponsive and KAYAK could not provide any help because they were not the one to receive our payment.
Overall, we did receive a 4-door, 5 seater, and functional car with A/C and unlimited mileage. But beware and keep track of all of your paperwork, the associates who help you, the condition of the car along with pictures, the fact that there is no customer service, and put additional money aside for the hidden/unexpected fees or be ready to settle for something much different.
