| - Frankly, I'm very nervous.
I purchased the groupon and got cleaning, x-rays, and a bag of cookies (good cookies, I gave them away because I left with bad news of cavities and sweets are the Last thing I need).
I had one filling that had fallen out that I was living with and had to wait for cash to get it fixed. I called in, got a busy signal a few times, finally got a receptionist and we made an appt for my upper right tooth. I'm not a dentist, and I did not look up tooth numbers yet upon reflection and conversation with the receptionist after my treatment I definately remember her saying tooth number 3. He gave me a shot for the lower right. Had I not asked, I would have been getting work on the wrong tooth. There was some back and forth arguement with the dental assistant. Why would I not want a tooth with a gaping hole in it fixed? When the doctor was called in, he said "accidents happen". When accidents happen, you make it right. He did not volunteer to even giving a discount for his obvious error which resulted in me getting a second shot leaving me with my entire right side swollen. He also told me that if I have some hesitation I should ask, which I did! That is why he didn't start drilling on the wrong tooth!
I went ahead with the procedure for the correct tooth because I was afraid of it cracking, and already took 40 minutes of driving time, a shot, and 30 minutes in the office and would have to wait a couple more weeks with my schedule. But now experiencing some pain and I;m really worried he drove too deep because of sensitivity and a comment he made regarding the tooth. Which during the last visit he said was "healthly" but obviously the filling needed to be replaced.
One of his comments during my first visit was that, he would treat me just as importantly as his wife. That tells me he does not treat his family very well because when I asked for a call back regarding my other teeth - their "system" does not identify a difference between a tooth with decay or a silver filling to be replaced, nothing, no call, no concern.
I don't want my dentist to be my husband. I want a qualified health care professional that gives quality care and doesn't treat you like a number. It is the dentists responsibility to confirm the treatment of an affected area, especially if there are several involved, "accidents happen" from a health care professional is not an appropriate answer, and after this mishap, his comments, and failure to follow through, I'm worried about his skills. And very worried about pain, that I did not have before this visit right now.
