| - The beer really is better here at the source, so if you're a fan of Steamwhistle, it's worth a visit. They have an unfiltered version on tap that is not available outside brewery walls. I do have to recommend this, as the taste is superior to the filtered version. Shame they don't ship it.
The roundhouse is a beautiful building. It was taken down in the past to build a parking garage underneath, and then rebuilt brick by brick. Supposedly, only one brick was missing. Either way, it is a gorgeous venue.
I take a bit of issue for charging people for a brewery tour. However, this appears to be the core business model of Steamwhistle brewery. Naturally, since they have only one beer, there isn't much by way of "tasting". They appear to have fully commercialized the brewery tour model, running it like clockwork. I decided not to parktake, as personally I feel that tours (and even tasting) should be free as an effective form of free marketing. Most other microbreweries do not charge, and would actively welcome new customers in such a manner. I suppose, in a way, that Steamwhistle has outgrown its microbrew classification, and such a model is probably not appropriate anymore.
Regardless of all of that, the staff is great and the beer is tasty. Stop by if you're in the area!
