| - VTR made a woman out of me.
The first time I ventured in quite a few years ago, I was immensely intrigued. It was dark, the decor was classic and lush, The Girl From Ipanema was playing on the piano and an old black and white movie on the telly. The "back room" was a complete and utter mystery. Oh how I wanted to know WHAT WENT ON back there?! Gambling? Prostitution? Other? I loved every minute of the mystique.
The cocktails, oh the cocktails... I have never had such artfully prepared, super fresh, unique and sinfully delicious concoctions in my life. I am 37, what the HELL is a Manhattan?! I think my first cocktail was the (safe) Pisco Sour. It was the best drink I had ever had. The real egg whites yield a froth that can't be duplicated. My favorite aspect was the house made bitters floating a top the white billowy cloud. YUM! Then it was the gingerly Dark n' Stormy, the French 77, the VTR Manhattan and the Spicy Chica (my fav). I could go into great detail about the cocktails, but that would take up way too much real estate. I became quite adventurous at VTR, trying things I never thought I would. I had never tried or liked colored liquor, but this was before I had GOOD colored liquor. Let's just say this vodka/cranberry girl ended up with a bottle of 17yr old single malt scotch in her liquor cabinet ;)
The back room is (sadly) no longer a mystery to me. VTR started renting it out for private parties and the like. I hosted a birthday party there a year or so ago and it was simply PERFECT. The staff was super attentive and the ambiance of the back room was class all the way. I felt like a princess...
...and all grown up ;)
