| - First let me remind everyone I am 100% Greek and I am in my own right a great Greek cook so I do not rate Greek restaurants easily or without great thought. Petra earned each and EVERY one of the above stars. We were greeted so warmly when we entered, both by the hostess and by the sheer beauty of this restaurant. It is lovely inside and out, here we are in August and you can sit outside comfortably. We were there on a quiet Monday night and so we had our choice of seating which was awesome. We chose inside bench seating and it was so freaking comfortable and we had a view of the entire place even outside. If you are a voyeur as am I, this was the perfect gunslinger seat.
Our server a lovely young girl took our drink and appetizer order very promptly, she was a little hesitant with the Greek named items and I did have to point to several of our choices, but she was such a sweetie I could not object greatly. Our drinks arrived very quickly as did our appetizers, I couldn't believe how quick the service was. The runners were as nice as our server. We ordered the Sampler Dip plate and chose Taramosalata (caviar dip), Melitsanosalata (eggplant dip), Htipiti (cheese dip) and Skordalia (garlic potato dip) they were served with pita. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough pita bread with such a large supply of dips. We ended up ordering extra pita. On the dip plate were dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and kalamata olives. Each and everyone of these dips were ON POINT especially for a Greek palate. We also ordered Kalamarakia (fried squid) and Octopus, unfortunately I had bribed my husband to go to another Greek restaurant with the promise of this octopus and they were out of it, so this put a slight damper on the outing. We also ordered the Fried Zucchini with Tsatsiki.. excellent !!!
I couldn't eat another bite but Hubby wanted a little more so we ordered the Bifteki dinner. Bifteki is a staple of Greek cuisine and when you go to a Taverna in Greece it is always on the menu. Bifteki is normally a large spiced ground beef patty, think of it like a minced steak. At Petra it is beef/lamb combo with lot's of fresh herbs and spices, VERY tasty and we chose the Petra Fries to go with. So having read some of the other reviews I need to explain, that the fries were made in a very traditional way. The fries in Greece are not fried hard. When I took a taste of these they brought me back to my favorite souvlaki stand in Kallithea where I would put these fries in my souvlaki pita.
Needless to say we brought home quite a bit of leftovers and we can have them for lunch tomorrow. We didn't try any of the desserts we were just too full. The price was right too, nothing over priced. They even have one of my favorite Greek fish on the menu Lavraki and it's only $29 for the whole fish with Horta and Potatoes. A big difference from the other place that charged us $140 for the same fish... HELLO
The Executive Chef, Chad Ellis, came out often to check on the floor (which speaks VOLUMES) and we had the opportunity to meet him.. That is when we found out why they were out of octopus, the only octopus on the market is sub par right now and he would rather not serve it, then serve us an inner tube.. I LOVE THIS ETHIC... so now we aren't that upset that they were out of octopus!!
Will definitely be hanging out here whenever we are at our Vegas house.
