| - Generally, prices are ridiculously high. Usually go in when at the Shops of Don Mills because McEwan's always has my favourite goat cheese, Paillot de Chevre.
Last time in we splurged on two of the prepared foods: Truffle Mac and Cheese ($13.95) for hubby (loves good mac and cheese), and Bucatini with Lobster and Chorizo ($16.95) for me (love lobster and chorizo, how can you go wrong)? Don't ask.
Hubby was so impressed that he said he'd rather eat Kraft Dinner, although I found the mac and cheese fairly tasty (he would like more cheese and creamier consistency). After following the microwave instructions exactly for the bucatini, the chorizo was harder than shoe leather, and unbelievably, so was the lobster - absolutely impossible to chew! Bucatini was way undercooked, not even close to al dente. To be fair, in retrospect, I realize that if I had used a casserole dish for microwaving the bucatini, rather than the container the product came in ,the result would likely have been better. The chorizo and lobster could have been buried under the bucatini and would possibly have been edible. The sauce was, in fact, quite decent..
I cannot ever remember buying any prepared food (the bucatini) that went straight to the Green Bin (compost); at these prices it's a shame. Had I purchased these items at any chain supermarket, I would have returned them immediately for a refund; however, we do not live close to McEwan, and somehow I doubt that I would be accorded the courtesy of a refund there.
Will return for cheese, but no more of McEwan's prepared foods for us.
