| - It was Dad's dream to come here...I really could have gone either way...but anything to make my dad happy!
We visited the museum on Memorial Day and it was not crowded at all. Not sure if that is the norm or not, but I liked it since I can't stand people up in my way!
The architecture of the building is awesome, and it is built on top of Lake Erie. It is really pretty there.
As soon as you walk in they drill it into your head that no photography is allowed. Haha, try and stop me! I really think that rule is stupid. I can see a "no flash photography" rule, but any photo at all...why?
As soon as you enter there is a theater with a short film about the history of Rock & Roll. I think it was about 20 minutes. I enjoyed the film.
After watching the short we headed into an interactive room where you can go into a booth that features a certain artist, and listen to/read about music that influenced them. If you wanted to go through everything in this room it would probably take you an hour.
From there we moved into the Elvis room, where his pretty purple Cadillac was, along with an outfit, a jukebox that belonged to him, and all sorts of documents from his life.
After leaving Elvis we came across halls with different genres and eras of music...it would literally take you hours to read everything they have in there.
We made it over to the Michael Jackson section, where I got a picture of the the Thriller jacket, even though a guard was posted nearby. I'm slick like that!
From there we went to the second level, then the third and fourth, and so on...I don't remember exactly what was on each level. There was a pretty good short film about the history of MTV that I enjoyed. The Rolling Stone magazine section was cool, as was the Pink Floyd : The Wall section.
The featured artist when we visited was Bruce Springsteen, who I don't care for. The top two levels were dedicated to him. If it were an artist I had interest in, i'm sure it would have been cool.
The gift shop was kind of lacking, in my opinion. I picked up a shot glass for a friend and a magnet for me. I think they could have had much cooler stuff in there.
This was an interesting place to visit once, but I don't see the need in visiting again.
