Michale Mina Pub 1842 was a chill spot for a casual dinner where I had with my coworkers. The decor was cool--typography and solid colors. Nothing flashy or anything but certainly bold enough to grab your attention. We came during happy hour, but we unfortunately couldn't get it from the booth since happy hour is at the bar only. Can't stop me for having a good time though! The menu had a nice alcohol selection, so I stuck with a good, local citrus-flavored IPA for the remainder of the dinner.
Prior to going into Pub 1842, my intent was to get a burger. I ended up ordering the bbq brisket plate that came with sides of jalapeno corn bread and baked beans. I asked the waiter if the brisket was fatty, and then he went on a spiel about how the brisket was lean since it's the healthier option... to which I replied that I really wanted the fatty brisket. Lol. It's all about the flavor, baby! Anyway, he was happy to comply with my order.
The bbq brisket plate was fine. I've had better. The pieces were fatty just as I wanted it, but the bbq sauce threw me off a bit. The sauce was more vinegar-based than I care for, and I realized that Kansas City style brisket (Burnt Ends, right?) just isn't my style compared to Texas style brisket. The baked beans and jalapeno corn bread were pretty basic. Note to self: Don't order bbq from a place that doesn't specialize in bbq.
