| - Between the crowds, chaos, and empty shelves, you'd think people were stocking up for zombie apocalypse at No Frills. Either that, or this No Frills location is a TARDIS leading to Soviet Russia. The floor was sticky, the store was generally a mess, apparently eating locally and organically is considered a "Frill," and at 4pm on a Sunday a large number of the produce and meat shelves were empty. Not picked over, mind you, they were completely bare, save for maybe an errant mushroom cap or broken piece of broccoli stem.
I'm not sure if the place is always like this, or if I just happened to go on day where all of Toronto decided to buy up all the packages of chicken legs and pork chops. (Maybe everyone else knows something I don't...) The items I was able to find needed a good once-over before sticking it my basket, because if I hadn't looked closely, I would have ended up purchasing a moldy block of cheese and a bag of chips long past the sell-by date.
On the plus side, the prices are low and the parking is plentiful. But if the definition of Frills include non-moldy cheese and fresh produce, then I guess I'll pay a little extra somewhere else.
