| - I have been to Fuzz several times before since moving to the city three years ago. I've bounced around between locations, but one particular waxer is pretty amazing at the Queen St. location and I see her regularly.
Today I had an experience that left me incredibly disappointed. My waxer mentioned that I should try a particular mask product the salon offers to help with ingrown hairs. I said I would be open to trying it (meaning that I would look at it on my way out). I should mention that although I'm no waxing professional, I know I don't have any ingrown hairs. Maybe she saw something that might develop into an ingrown or something along those lines, but I always exfoliate regularly and never have a problem with ingrowns. If there was anything there, I'm confident I could work it out myself. Nevertheless, I was genuine when I said I would consider the product.
She then mentioned there was a rollerball product I could try to prevent scarring and a moisturizer that was similar to coconut oil. I again said that I would look, but also told her I do not need any moisturizer. She finished the wax and it was of course perfect, as her waxes always are. (She really is a great waxer.)
When I went to pay there were three products waiting for me at the cash. I asked what they were and the receptionist told me it was the mask, rollerball, and moisturizer. I immediately mentioned I did not need the moisturizer again, so they removed the moisturizer and rang me up for the wax, rollerball, and mask. I was told my total of $130, and I was completely shocked. My wax is usually $50.
I just felt so awkward as it was just assumed that I was buying two products that I never agreed to purchase, nor ever even got the chance to look at. The waiting room had customers in it, my waxer was there, and there were two receptionists standing there. I felt incredibly pressured to complete the purchase as the onus was on me to say in front of everybody that I didn't want any of those products and risk embarrassing everybody involved, including myself. After swiping my card, I noticed there was no prices on the product or visible on the shelves (from where I was standing), and I was not given a receipt.
I have no doubt that this high-pressure sales tactic was intentional and manipulative. The two products were over $70 together, which is not a small amount of money. I was completely taken advantage of. It is pretty apparent that the staff must be incentivized to sell product. It's so tacky.
I am disappointed to have had this experience because I genuinely love my waxer and do not want to terminate my relationship with her, but I don't have much reason to support Fuzz after this experience.
