I've been to Azteca a few times, but this review is about our most recent visit on a Thursday night. When you pull up, it usually leaves people scratching their head as it is next to a days inn that has seen better days. However, don't be deterred! I've seen other yelpers tag it as "dirty Mexican", which is what my wife and I jokingly call it as well. What you get is a pretty authentic experience with some really simple and delicious Mexican food (think meat, rice, beans, sauce).
We pulled in late (~10 PM) to grab a quick dinner and ended up sitting outside on the patio. They have a decent drink menu to go along with their expansive food menu (also be sure to check out the menu full of photographs for a few kicks) and I ended up getting a 32 oz sugar creek pale ale that was on special - I soon realized my mistake when the massive glass hit the table as I don't do math well (almost 3 beers!) after 10 PM. We ended up splitting a fajitas plate as the portions are huge and even I couldn't finish one myself.
The staff is always super friendly. I had flashbacks to our travels to central america as the waiter's common responses come in Spanish and he tolerated/helped me with my poor broken Spanish. There is a bit of a culture gap here, so you may have to work to get your bill. I ended up closing up at the front due to the late hour and they were closing down.
All in all - a fun place to go and grab a simple but tasty meal!
